Differences HUB and Switch

Hub and Switch is one of the tools used in building a network of computer network swhich usually consist of 2 or more computers. Typically this tool is used in a building a LAN (Local Area Network). Topology that uses these two devices is a star topology. There are several aspect that differentiate hubs and switches, them from the aspect from speed, performance, research and others.

  • Understanding HUB

Hub Interface between computers, all types of communication can only be passed by thehub. hub is used for a simple form of network (eg only for connecting multiple computers in a local IP group) when there is an incoming packet to one port on the hub, it will be copied into another port on the same hub and all computers which are connected at the hub The same can read the package. Currently, the hub is a lot ofabandoned and replaced with a switch. The reason for this replacement is usually because the hub has a data transfer speed is slower than switches. Hubs and switches have a data transfer rate up to 100 Mbps and even switch has been developed up to 1 Gbps.

  • Understanding SWITCH
Switch A device that filters / filter and pass (allow to pass) package that is on a LAN.switcher working on the data link layer (layer 2) and sometimes at the Network Layer(layer 3) based on the OSI Layer Model. so it can work for any protocol packets. LANsthat use switches to communicate on the network then called a Switched Ethernet LAN or in the physical network called a Switched Ethernet LANs.

  • Differences How it Works Switch and HUB
Hub is a device on the network that is conceptually operate at Layer 1 (Physical Layer). That is, the hub does not filter to translate something, just knowing the speed of datatransfer and arrangement of pins in the cable. The workings of this tool is to sendsignals into data packets all ports on the hub so that the data packet is received by all computers associated with the hub unless the sending computer. Transmit signal isrepeated, although the data packet has been received by the destination computer. This causes the function colossion more common. While the switch is a device on the network that are conceptually located in layer 2 (datalink layer). That is, the switch at the time of delivery of data to follow the MAC address on the NIC (Network InterfaceCard) so that the switches know to whom this package will be accepted. If there is acollision that occurred a collision on the ports that are exchanging data packets. For example, when there is delivery of data packets from port A to port B and at the same time there is transmission of data packets from port C to port D, then there will be nocollision (collision) due to a different destination address and not use the same line.More and more ports are available on the switch, will not affect the bandwidth available for each port.

  • Differences Speed Switch and HUB
The speed is only 10Mbps hub is small while it 10/100Mbps switch, so depending onwhat his opponent running 10Mbps or 100Mbps switch was due to a technology called auto negotiation, auto negotiation is not only for speed but for fashion whether half or full duplex, sample questions, if the switch has a speed of 10/100Mbps and half duplex 10Mbps hub then the result is a switch running at the speed of 10Mbps with half duplexmode.
